Why follow me?

I’ve been a full-time tipster for 17 years. Many private clients have been with me since day one, so I must be doing something right!
My father’s wise words
My dad loved a day at the races, and started taking me when I was 12. Gradually he taught me how to read form, emphasising the correct level of importance to place on each factor. The more we went racing, the more he taught me.
I couldn’t wait to grow up and get my first job, so that I had money to back the horses I’d select. Seeing my enthusiasm, here’s what my father said. It was a very important lesson:
“Son, save up your money until you’ve got a lump sum. That’s called a betting bank. If you're backing at around 4/1, put 2% of the bank on each horse. So if there were 3 horses, it would cost you 6%. If there were 2, it would cost 4%.
“If you had a losing day, the next day you’d put 2% of your smaller bank on each horse. But if it was a winning day, you’d put 2% of your bigger bank on each horse.
“It’s called Daily Variable Staking.
“During a losing run the stakes reduce, so you can never lose your bank. But on a winning run stakes increase, which capitalises on growth.
“Take out all profits at the end of each month, so the bank is back to what it was at the start.”
I’ve never forgotten my dad’s wise words, and still follow his advice to this day.
The meaning of B.O.G.
Most online bookies, and some betting shops, offer Best Odds Guaranteed. It means that, when you win, you’ll be paid the early odds you took or the SP, whichever is greater.
The man who won too much
One of my clients told me that his stakes had been heavily restricted by his online bookie. What should he do? I replied that he should spread his stakes round betting shops which offered B.O.G., or use an online betting exchange like Betfair.
A betting exchange allows people who think a horse will win to bet against people who think it will lose. The betting exchange takes a small commission in the middle (typically 2%).
Betting exchanges don’t care how much you win, because it’s not their money, it’s someone else’s. The more you win the better, because they get more commission.
A betting exchange doesn’t offer B.O.G., but often their early odds are better than the bookies, so in the long run everything evens out. Click the Betfair How-To tab at the top of this page.
